Will some white Democrats not vote for Obama due to his race? Say it isn't so!!

The following is my responses to the comments of other on a friends blog. The comment in quotes are the comments of others that I am responding too.

IMO, Obama is a political lightweight and it will become quite obvious if he makes it beyond the primaries.

To any Obama supporters (without searching his website):

Which positions of his do you agree?
Which positions of his do you disagree? Why?

I have found that most of Obama's supporters really don't know his positions on anything, especially not well enough to agree or disagree with them. All they seem to know is that he speaks well. To Obama it's OK if you don't know his positions, as long as you still vote for him.

If you listen to Obama and your average pulpit pimpin' televangelist, you won't find many differences. At the present, only one comes to mind. If you send Obama $100, he won't send you the little bottle of holy water, "hope" cloth, or the hem from his garment.

"Change" and "Hope" are abstract concepts that can mean anything to anyone. When Obama supporters realize his idea of "change" and the financial cost of providing "hope" then they may reconsider their decision.

Nevertheless, with Obama or Hillary, I "hope" you can live off the "change" in you pocket after you are taxed to support a welfare state.

Eric,

The whole problem with Obama is that many people are unable to think for themselves. They have been told their whole lives who to vote for and what party to support. Most Blacks are voting for skin color and not issues. Even if Obama was a straightout communist, they would vote for him anyway. Any Black person who does not buy into him is a sellout (according to the masses).

Most people have no idea about the basics of economics in a free-market vs. a state controlled economy. They fall for the rhetoric of wealth distribution. After debating with some liberals over the weekend, I realized they really do not understand economics. I also realized that Michael Savage is correct, liberalism is a mental disorder.

“Eric, you should well know that the majority of voting Americans (Dems & Repbs) vote along party lines. For the most part, after a person chooses his or her political party, their vote goes to who's the most "like-able" (it basically becomes a popularity contest)”

Yeah. This is a sad but true reality. I also find is sad when people choose a political party by following the crowd. I was a Dem because I was following the crowd, but I began to evaluate the issues and realize that I couldn’t support their agenda.

“Those who post on blogs such as this, read print and web journals, keep pace with talk radio, and the like, can be considered "informed" voters. For some "strange" reason (lol) we have an interest in the political process and politics in general.”

I think we realize that the process is too important to take lightly. Unlike the masses that just follow the sample ballot provided by XYZ organization.

“Ending the "senseless" and wasteful war in Iraq. Trillions of "taxpayer" dollars and tens of thousands of American lives being taken or ruined by a war that should have never been.”

Using that logic, we should also end the war on drugs, and the war on poverty.

“Those who are in favor of continuing the war in Iraq (who are the "minority") totally ignore the that fact that billions of tax dollars are unaccounted for, or missing from the Federal Reserve war fund.”

Continuing the war is the decision of the terrorist organizations who started it. We didn’t strike first. The American people want to WIN the war, and for this reason the DEM majority in congress is unable to successfully withdraw funding. The DEMs want GWB to end it so that he can be blamed for the loss. We haven’t been attacked again, so someone is doing something right.

The billions of dollars unaccounted for is just another example of government waste and mismanagement. Private companies go out of business, but government agencies request additional funding.

“Health Care. Obamas plan is quite different from Clintons.”

True, but they both boil down to socialism. Cuba’s plan is different from Canada’s, but citizens from both counties will risk their lives to come here.

“He'll remove those grossly unfair "tax-cuts" for the rich (by 2010), which is over $60 billion annually.”

I know the Dem playbook, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs. -Karl Marx"

I never got a job from a poor person. I am not rich, but I have benefited from tax-cuts. Those in government would rather give ecomonic stimulus checks than tax cuts, because people look at it as a gift from the government, when in reality they are just getting their own money back. If the government didn’t steal it, they wouldn’t need to give it back.

“Obamas plan calls for reforming NCLB's implementation and funding.”

It’s is Ted Kennedy’s plan, but that seems to get overlooked.

“But as what is typical with the Bush administration, they failed to support their own plans.”

If the funding is an issue, then refuse to participate. You can’t loose federal funding as a result, if they aren’t paying. Why is it that private and home schools can produce better results at a lower cost that government schools? Once again, this is just another example of government waste and mismanagement. Private companies go out of business, but government agencies request additional funding.

“The Nurse-Family Partnership, which provides home visits by trained registered nurses. This type of contact is much needed in low-income, single parent homes to promote the importance of education in the home as well as in the school.”

So, the government has to provide the service and then deliver it door-to-door. These people didn’t become single parents by themselves. Why are government employees being paid to do the job of parent? What about the security of the nurses while going in and out of homes in some of the less preferred neighborhoods in this country?

“Time for a CHANGE! We've had 8 years of lies, bumbling, screw-ups and mis-steps!”

News flash. The government didn’t start screwing up 8 years ago. Big government is always expensive and inefficient.

“The "terrorist" and "war on terror" scare tactic is old.”

Don’t tell me. Tell the terrorist.

“Any sane American should know that if any one were to attack us, in any circumstance, any president would have to respond, forcefully and decisively.”

I haven’t heard a statement to that effect from Obama, and I wouldn’t want to support a candidate only to realize that I assumed wrong. I think the “Path to 9-11” and the DEMs in congress have shown how national defense can be compromised in the name of playing politics.

“History being made within your lifetime!”

History is being made every day.

“For those here who are Black/African-American/Negro/Colored, or however you wish to classify your racial heritage, it is possible that your parents thought that they would never see a Black person elected as President of the United States.”

My parents told me that I could be president if I wanted too. It may not be me, but the impossibility was not part of my upbringing.

“It is within that retrospection that gives me a certain pride and honor that we have someone such as Barack Obama to give hope to not only Blacks in America, but America as a whole.”

I am proud of my personal, educational and professional accomplishment. I am also proud of the accomplishments of my kids. Pride is usually the result of an accomplishment that ones efforts helped to achieve. How can you have pride in the accomplishments of Obama when your own political party would not permit you to vote for him?

Nevertheless, if those who put so much “hope” in Obama, had more pride in themselves, then they wouldn’t be a need to raise taxes to buy votes with government handouts. My grandfather was the sole financial support for his wife and 10 children. If he could make it without government handouts, then so can the “hopeless” Obama supporters.

Comments:
I like your lines of reasoning. Conservatism = common sense.

Hello Johnny. It seems that common sense is just not common anymore. Could this be a result of government schools and allowing the TV to be the babysitter?

My recent posting on my blog are some of the comments I have posted on other blogs. Although I don't post the entire dialogue, I though it would be interesting to use it to share some of what I have written.
